This November, the 9th International Road Federation (IRF) Global R2T Conference & Exhibition will place road safety within a wider discussion of infrastructure. For road authorities, engineers and suppliers, the event provides an opportunity to explore how road design, operations and maintenance can work together to improve safety.

Conference dates and exhibition schedule

According to the organizer, the conference is scheduled for November 3–6, 2026, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California’s San Francisco Bay Area.

The exhibition will be open to attendees on November 4–5. November 3 is reserved for exhibitor move-in, while conference sessions continue on November 6 with the exhibition closed. Visitors should check the organizer’s latest updates before making arrangements.

Roadside protection alongside infrastructure management

The published themes cover roadside safety, work-zone protection, asset management, AI-enabled transport technologies and infrastructure resilience. Here, resilience refers to the ability of road infrastructure to withstand climate impacts, disasters and operational disruption, and to maintain or restore service.

Barrier systems, terminals and delineation are included in the roadside safety topics. Other themes address infrastructure monitoring, predictive maintenance and climate adaptation. Together, these provide a setting for discussions that extend from individual products to the operation of the wider road network.

PIPESD perspective: from exhibition displays to real projects

For road safety manufacturers and project buyers, new products and concepts on display ultimately need to answer practical questions: where can they be used, what supporting evidence is available, and what conditions must be met during installation?

For guardrail systems, useful discussion points include how components fit the approved system design, whether drawings and installation information are clear for contractors, and how compatible replacement parts can be identified and supplied after damage. These questions connect manufacturing and delivery with long-term road maintenance.

Turning exhibition discussions into follow-up actions

Buyers can record the configuration on display, request the relevant technical documents and identify questions that require a designer’s review. Suppliers can use these discussions to improve the clarity of their drawings, product information and maintenance support.

PIPESD sees the event as an opportunity to observe the direction of industry discussions on road safety. This briefing is based on public information available before the event. Further assessments should consider the outcomes published by the organizer; the inclusion of a topic in the program does not mean that a new standard has been issued.
